About Glen
Captain Glen Grauer grew up charmed by the water. From a young age, he has been occupying himself with rowing, canoeing and fishing. Spending time with his family in CT on the waters of the Long Island Sound and the many lakes in the area as well as with his grandfather on The Hudson River in Croton NY. He knew as soon as he could, he would acquire his own boat. A sailboat in his early 20’s was a dream come true and he never looked back. The years have gone by, and he has had sailboats of various types and sizes, lobster boats, catboats, sloops, center consoles, a trawler or two, built a skiff in his garage and is currently enjoying his DeFever 34 along with his wife Shannon, on the coast of Maine.
Glen started apprenticing in 2010 with a very well-known marine surveyor/boat builder. Glen’s professional background of more than 30 years in the insurance industry working on damage claims for marine, heavy equipment and recreational RV’s brings a unique perspective to Marine Surveying. Glen has completed several boat restorations over the years.
Captain Glen is an insured USSA/Navtech accredited Master Marine Surveyor and is available and able to assist you.

Glen can offer a complete range of surveys, all of which are accepted by banks and insurance companies. Pre-purchase marine surveys, insurance surveys and insurance damage/claims surveys.
Preparing For Your Survey
It is important to prepare for the inspection to make sure we can accurately and efficiently complete the survey inspection.
Some needed preparations:
- Remove any clutter as cushions and floorboards will need to be moved and stored during the inspection.
- · Ensure all safety gear is on board and up-to-date (flares, fire extinguishers etc.)
- · Make sure the batteries are connected and charged
- Make sure the mast/ masts, sails and rigging are available for inspection
- Please have AC power available if possible
- Provide receipts for recent work that should be noted in the survey report
- Prepare the following information:
- Length
- Draft
- Beam
- Displacement
- Year, builder and model of vessel
- Hull number
- Documentation number (copy of documentation)
- Types of sails as well as the number of sails
